Who We Are
We place a premium on the relationship we develop with each customer. Our customers are our neighbors and our friends. We believe the relationship we build with each customer is just as important as the level of craftsmanship we build into each project. At Montgomery-Hobson, we treat your home as if it were our own. Our business is maintained by the referrals and word-of-mouth references we earn through our unwavering care for our customers and commitment to maintaining honesty and trust in our business relationships.
Principal Ross Hobson, Sr. has lived in the Queen City for more than 45 years. He has an eye for detail, precision and accuracy, priding himself on focusing on what matters. Those traits extended to protecting lives as a lifeguard at Foxcroft Swim and Racquet Club as a young man and even tracking the length of his courtship to wife Trish to ensure their marriage happened on the one-year anniversary of their first date. And they’re precisely the qualities he brings to his work every day, crafting beautiful homes.
Hobson’s son and employee Ross Jr. also embodies the Charlotte mentality, growing up immersed in Myers Park schools and quaint neighborhood. As an athlete, he takes the commitment to hard work and team spirit he learned on the baseball field to work with him each day.
In 1988 Ross embarked on his 30+ years of service in the construction and real estate industry. Ross has played multiple roles including builder, broker, investor, developer, project director, partner and owner.
After a 364-day courtship, Ross married Trish Vail on the 1-year anniversary of their first date in May of 1992. Trish was a recent graduate of Queen’s University and was raised in Johnston City, Tennessee. Trish and Ross have 2 grown children, Helen and Ross Jr. Trish has served as the president of the Junior League of Charlotte and is now the president of the Relatives. Located in the heart of the Dilworth Community, the mission of The Relatives, a nonprofit, is to help youth and young adults transition from crisis to safety, stability, and happy futures. Trish and Ross live near Freedom Park with their 2 rescue dogs, Chipper and Jo Jo.
Ross’ roles with Montgomery Hobson includes representing the team throughout the community, developing business, long-term planning, customer relations, charitable giving and service, and being the old, grey-haired guy with decades of mistakes and successes to learn from.
With a degree in hand, Cam, his future wife, Cassidy Binner, and boxer, Marley, moved to Denver, Colorado to ski, snowboard and eat their way across the Rockies. They lived in Colorado for nine months then returned to their home in Charlotte to jump into the real world and begin their careers. Cam began working for a geotechnical engineering firm as a lead project manager, and Cassie joined an architectural firm, Meyer|Greeson|Paullin|Benson, as an office manager. Cassie currently works in the firm’s interior design group and manages projects with senior principal architects.
On May 19, 2015, Cam and Cassie married at Myers Park United Methodist Church and held their reception at Carmel Country Club where Cam had coached tennis years before. Cam and Cassie welcomed their second daughter, Faye, in March 2018. They know she will quickly take control of their house, just as their 2-year-old Olive did when she arrived in January 2016. Marley, now 12, still keeps a close watch over the house and girls.
Cam continued his work with the engineering firm for three and a half years before moving into the residential construction world. He joined Andrew Roby General Contracting as a project manager and quickly fell in love with the home renovation industry. Before long, he became a senior level project manager at Roby, handling many of its large renovation and new construction projects. He worked for Roby for four years before joining Ross Sr., who owned 100 percent of Segue Builders Inc. Six months later, Ross named Cam a 50/50 partner of Segue Builders and rebranded the company as Montgomery Hobson Builders.
Cam’s roles at Montgomery Hobson include business development, construction oversight, estimating and all aspects of project management. Cam holds the commercial and residential license for Montgomery Hobson and is excited to grow the company for generations to come.
Ross enrolled at the University of South Carolina in 2013 as both a Capstone Scholar and a McKissick Scholar. He earned his way into The Darla Moore School of Business with a major in Global Supply Chain and Operations Management. Ross graduated from this program in 2017 with the addition of a French minor. Ross worked for Segue Builders Inc., now Montgomery Hobson, on and off throughout college. He also interned with Ingersoll Rand in Columbia, SC, the parent company of Trane Systems and served as a consultant with Delta Airlines in Atlanta and Minneapolis to help improve their cargo operations efficiency. Ross Jr. joined Ross Sr. and Cam full time within a week of graduation.
Ross serves the role of project manager and handles all scheduling for Montgomery Hobson. Spending a majority of his time in the field, Ross also works hard to maintain and build on healthy relationships with our sub-contractors, many who have worked with our team for decades.
